The Dead

By Evgueni Bezzubikoff Diaz. Translated by Jessica Sequeira.

A dark car pursued us.

It was summer, the very middle of summer

And the thermostat showed 50 °F.

I would say it was less, much less.

In the early morning, people’s breath

Was visible.

The towns kneeling at the highway’s edge

Remained asleep, and a thick fog

Chained the path.

The brimming lakes gave off a strange shine

And a car pursued us.

Suddenly I touched her heart.

It was I who was the phantom assassin.

Las muertes

Escrito por Evgueni Bezzubikoff Diaz.

Un auto oscuro nos perseguía.

Era verano, el ombligo del verano

Y marcó 50F° la temperatura.

Diría menos, mucho menos.

Salía en la madrugada humo

De las bocas.

Los pueblos arrodillados a la autopista

Permanecían dormidos y una niebla gruesa

Encadenaba el camino.

Los lagos colmados de un brillo extraño.

Y un auto nos perseguía.

De repente le toqué el corazón

Era yo mismo el fantasma asesino.
